The Monoliths

A previous incumbent of Inanity once had a bit of a soft spot for Ferros. When she praised the Son of the Forge about them, he thanked her modestly and said that really, anyone could make them.

So Inanity set to work.

She chose the beautiful veined marble that was at that time quarried in the New Dynasty and combined it with humans. The result couldn't walk, but on the other hand had a connection to every other of it's kind. Despite them being imperfect, Inanity loved them very much, and bid her priests give them ears with which to listen, and mouths with which to speak.

Soon the monoliths were gossiping away to each other, but the novelty quickly palled and they came up with an idea among themselves.

Inanity listened to her favourite creations, and the next morning every reasonably sized town had a monolith in the city centre. In loud bright voices they announced that from now on, anyone wishing to pass messages to other towns, or to make a big announcement could speak to the monoliths. The monoliths require no payment, except perhaps that the town scrubs off the worst of the lichen from time to time, the monoliths simply like to know what's going on.

How much confidential information they share among themselves is unknown, but monoliths don't ever reveal the secrets they convey, in one memorable occasion not even in the face of a hundred chisels.
