Downtimes

Between each Godwar game characters have a chance to improve their lot in life: by creating things, increasing their Essence and gaining new Advantages or just by affecting the world around them.

Experience Points
Experience points are an abstract measure of your ability to grow as a person. After each game of Godwar the amount of Experience you get will be announced, together with the amount of time in which you have to spend them in character before the next game.

Creating Items
In each downtime you can craft items. The Crafting Level of the item is usually equal the level of the Advantage used to create it; though poor materials or especially good materials will effect this. You must locate a supply of relevant material (such as owning the key to an appropriate warehouse) in order to craft items. Crafting items uses Experience points.

Weapon Creation
To create a weapon in downtime you must have a supply of the relevant material (for example a specific metal or the key to a warehouse that has that metal) the skill to work that material (for example blacksmith) and the skills needed to use that weapon in order to understand how best to craft it. The Crafting Level of the weapon is usually equal the level of the Advantage used to create it; though poor materials or especially good materials will effect this. Crafting items uses Experience points.

Armour & Shield Creation
To create a piece of armour in downtime you must have a supply of the relevant material (for example a specific type of leather) and the skill to work that material (for example Skinsmith). The Crafting Level of the armour is equal the level of the Advantage used to create it; though poor materials or especially good materials will effect this. Crafting items uses Experience points.

Learning in Downtime
Each downtime a character has the option of increasing their Essence. Every time a character’s Essence reaches a multiple of 5 they learn a new Advantage. Gaining Essence takes time and the expenditure of Experience points.

Other Actions In Downtime
It is possible to spend experience points to change the world itself. Spying, going to war, trading, intrigue and the like are all possibilities.

Submitting Downtime Requests
When submitting downtimes you should say how long you spend on each activity and how many points of Experience you allocate to that thing. You should also state what Advantages and resources you are devoting to that activity, together with any relevant lore-codes.

An example of a downtime request:
“I spend 1 month making swords using my Blacksmith Level 2 Advantage and Master of The Swift Dance Advantage. I use the materials from the warehouse that I have the key to (Lore-code X1234). I spend 3 points of Experience on this.
I spend 2 months attempting to increase my Essence. I spend 7 points of Experience on this.
I spend 1 month in the Throal region spying on trade routes, and blockading the town of Middletown with my Army Level 2 Advantage. I spend 5 points of Experience on this.”

Gods In Downtime
Gods have a different range of possible downtime activities than mortals, which are detailed separately in the rules for Gods
